The first two new reach-stackers SMV 4531 manufactured by Konecranes in Sweden already arrived. These reach-stackers have a certified weighing function, which helps to control weight of containers, and can stack 45 t container in five lines on top of each other.
“With the increase in handling volumes, existing handling equipment is simply not enough. Compared to last year handling volumes increased by 20%. Until we have reconstructed quays, we are investing in machinery, cranes for work in the container area, which are not related to the quays. We are planning to work with Panamax type vessels. For this reason, we have to invest in larger, more efficient cranes and other cargo handling equipment which will allow to accommodate larger volumes of containers and other loads and will ensure better service quality “, – says CEO of the company V. Šileika.
By the end of 2018, two Rubber tired gantry cranes (RTG) will be delivered to container terminal, and in 2019 will be delivered 4 more. Investments in the renewal of cargo handling equipment will reach over 8 million EUR in 2 years.
Container handling at the terminal has been growing since the beginning of the year. Terminal operates 24 hours per day, if his work is not interrupted by bad weather conditions. On average KCT reloads 1,000 containers (TEU) daily. From the beginning of the year (9 month), 257 604 containers (TEU) were handled, 19% more compared to 2017.
