The investment in this environmentally friendly solution amounted to approximately €90,000.
“This is another concrete step towards our goal of reducing CO₂ emissions and our dependence on energy from the grid. From now on, we have the opportunity to use more energy for our own needs, and the storage unit ensures uninterrupted operation even during power outages,” says Ramunė Venslauskienė, director of our company.
A total of 221 solar power plant modules have been installed on the roof structure of the logistics center, ensuring efficient solar energy capture throughout the year.
According to R. Venslauskienė, this is a sustainability measure that not only reduces the impact on the environment, but also ensures greater operational efficiency and reliability for customers. With the implementation of this project, KTG has further strengthened its position as one of the most innovative and environmentally friendly logistics and cargo handling companies in Klaipėda.
It is important to note that the stevedoring terminals operated by KTG in the Port of Klaipėda – Klaipėda Container Terminal (KCT) and Malkų Įlankos Terminal (MĮT) – are also equipped with solar power plants. Solar power plants with a capacity of 820 kW have been installed on the roofs of both terminals’ warehouses, which have already helped to reduce CO₂ emissions into the environment by 328 tons in 2024.
The solar power plants produce about 25% of the electricity needed for the terminals, with the remainder purchased as certified green energy. R. Venslauskienė emphasizes that today’s customers have high expectations not only for the quality of services, but also for the responsibility of organizations for their activities, which is why sustainable commitments have become part of the responsibility of managed companies.
A total of 1,975 solar collectors were installed at both terminals, covering more than 4,500 square meters of warehouse roofs.
