This year, we paid a special attention to the leisure of children with congenital intellectual disabilities. In cooperation with the head management of the Lithuanian Special Olympics Committee (LSOC), it was agreed to support a rowing sport and donate 10 kayaks to children with special needs, as well as organising a week-long camp at the Baltic Sea with the help of KTG.
According to LSOC Director Daiva Dabrilienė, the KTG contribution to the promotion of activity of children with intellectual disabilities is very important.
“So far our athletes have been training on borrowed kayaks. Now we will have our own and this simplifies the training process. We can train whenever convenient. The kayaks were assigned to Kazlų Rūda “Saulė” School and “Šeduva” Gymnasium‘s Special Education Department. Rowing is a great tool for recreation and active rest. We are preparing to participate in Erasmus rowing project and participate in SO world games, tournaments, and organise 2 rowing championships in Lithuania. We are planning (dreaming) to organise European or Baltic Championships”, Mrs. Daiva shared the plans.
The Summer Camp of June 30th – July 07th, took place in Pervalka, where over twenty LSC students and their coaches were having fun.
“It’s a wonderful experience; the kids came back up high emotionally. It is a great location, delicious food, understanding and good-willing hosts, good conditions for training, a cycling trip, morning exercises, evening walks, new friends, joint games, chats, hymn singing, swimming in the sea…Part of the kids were at the sea for their first time, at our camp. For them, it is a great experience: the opportunity to develop the need for a cultured, active recreation; to see the unique landscape of Neringa; communicate and cooperate, and, what is especially important – to socialise. The kids are really very happy. Another key moment is the preparation of the SO World Winter Games in Sweden in 2021. We ran a lot of with snow-walkers on the beach. Leaders have emerged who are likely to hit the squad. Boosting motivation for active sports is another goal of this camp”, said the LSOC leader.
KTG sincerely thanks for helping with the support project with LSOC:
– Vytautas Vaičikonis, a professional rower, for his advice and assistance in choosing kayaks and other equipment to meet the special needs of children for safe sailing.
– Kayakshop.lt Sales Manager Karolis Vaičiukas for support and timely delivery of kayaks and other equipment.
– Laimonas and Egle Obolevičius, owners of „Villa Baldininkas“, for their cosy welcome and sincere care for the campers.
We are permanently striving to contribute to solving children activities problems. We support a variety of initiatives to promote children’s athletic activities and believe that our support reaches the children who need it most.
