The planned investments are aimed at further increasing the efficiency of cargo handling in one of the companies managed by the company – Klaipėda Container Terminal, UAB.
The planned investments will be used to purchase 2 STS type cranes from the Finnish company Konecranes. The new cranes will replace the old two cranes used so far and will be designed for ship-to-shore container handling and will also be environmentally friendly, as they will use electricity in the handling processes.
“We are delighted with the successful long-term cooperation with the Lithuanian branch of OP Corporate Bank. The port handling business requires regular large investments in fixed assets, and a reliable financial partner makes these concerns much easier,” says Vytautas Pikturna, Chief Financial Officer of Klaipėda Terminals Group.
“Global shipping trends mean that the terminal is receiving increasingly larger vessels. The main requirement of the terminal’s customers – shipping lines – is to service ships as quickly as possible, and it is in their interest that ships spend as little time in port as possible. In order to maintain the competitiveness of our company, we are investing in the renewal of the terminal’s equipment,” says Vaidotas Šileika, General Manager of Klaipėda Container Terminal, a managed company.
According to Mr Šileika, 5 years ago two new STS cranes of the same type were invested in by Konecranes and delivered to the terminal.
The new cranes will be delivered to Klaipėda from the Finnish Konecranes factory in the second quarter of this year.
